Eyelid Surgery;
What is Blepharoplasty? - Blepharoplasty is a type of surgery that repairs sagging eyelids and involves removing excess skin, muscle and fat. As you age, the skin of your eyelids relax and the muscles that support them weaken. As a result, excess fat can accumulate above and below your eyelids, causing sagging eyebrows, sagging upper eyelids and bags under your eyes.
In addition to making you look older, serious sagging skin around the eyes can reduce your side vision (peripheral vision), especially the upper and outer parts of your field of vision. Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate these kinds of vision problems and make your eyes look younger and more alert.
To help you decide if blepharoplasty is right for you, learn what to expect in a realistic way and discover the benefits and risks of blepharoplasty.
For whom is blepharoplasty applied?
If sagging in your eyelids causes your eyes to open fully or pull your lower eyelids down, you may consider blepharoplasty. Removing excess tissue from your upper eyelids may improve your vision. Upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty can make your eyes look younger and more alert.
Blepharoplasty may be an option for you if you have the followings:
- Baggy or sagging upper eyelids
- Excess skin of the upper eyelids that hinder your environmental vision
- Excess skin on the lower eyelids
- You can have blepharoplasty at the same time with another procedure such as eyebrow lift, face lift (rhytidoplasty) or skin rejuvenation.
Insurance coverage may depend on whether surgery repairs a condition that impairs your vision. If you only have surgery to improve your appearance, the cost will probably not be covered by the insurance.
How long is the recovery period after Blepharoplasty?
Patients usually have a short recovery period after blepharoplasty. Although bruising and swelling are generally worse on the day after surgery, they begin to disappear quickly. Applying cold compresses during the first 48 hours can greatly reduce bruising and swelling around the eyes and face. Mild activities like walking will also help speed recovery. Thin bandages are usually placed over the incision areas and removed within a few days while the sutures can remain on the skin for about a week.
Most people return to their normal activities seven to 10 days after blepharoplasty. Most of the bruising and swelling will recover two weeks after blepharoplasty.
PLEXR - Non-surgical eyelid aesthetics
What is Plexr? Plexr is a non-surgical treatment that offers an effective alternative to surgical procedures such as blepharoplasty (eyelid correction), face / neck lift and scar. Plexr creates a plasma arc to stimulate the instant contraction and tightening of the skin in a period of 2-4 weeks. There are no scalpels or laser and sutures used.
What can you expect from the plexr process?
After a consultation to see if you are a suitable candidate for Plexr, anaesthetic cream is applied to minimize pain when you come for the procedure. The duration of treatment, including topical anaesthetic cream, can be 20-60 minutes, depending on the treatment area. One to three treatments may be required for each area at 6-8 week intervals.
The treatment is performed with spots created by the Plexr device to sublimate (change from solid to gas) superficial skin cells without bleeding or damaging the surrounding tissue.
Following the treatment, there will be swelling and redness on the treated areas. Each spot will have a carbon shell in place that should not be touched for 7 days, except for camouflage. You will need to protect the treated area clean, dry and free from sun exposure or direct heat sources for at least 30 days. The next week, you will be given creams that you need to apply that can help with the healing process.
Unusual side effects include infection, scarring, or pigmentation changes. It is imperative to follow post care recommendations to prevent such complications.
